Caring and competent treatment of ear-nose-throat problems in children

Do you have a child who has earaches or is bothered by other diseases in the ear-nose-throat area?

Then your child can be treated with us and children are often covered by the parents' health insurance!

We investigate and treat not only adults - we also have a lot of experience in treating children for diseases related to the ears, throat and or nose - and unlike most other private hospitals, we can also operate on children under 2 years of age.

Treatment at Charlottenlund Private Hospital

We can treat your child as either a private patient, through health insurance or through The Expanded Free Choice of Hospital. We have no waiting time for a preliminary examination and can often offer surgery within a week.

As Denmark's leading and largest private hospital for ear, nose and throat diseases, you can confidently choose us to treat your child.

If you have any questions about our treatment, service, staff, etc., please feel free to contact us.

At Charlottenlund Private Hospital you will not have to wait.

Extensive experience in treating and operating on children

Every year, we treat a large number of children with ear-nose-throat problems (ENT) - i.a. drain in the ear to relieve chronic otitis media, surgery for oversized tonsils and polyps to achieve better sleep, and surgery for a tongue tie that is too short to solve problems with breastfeeding.

Anesthetizing and operating on small, older and large children requires special expertise, which is why only a few private hospitals nationwide can offer this. At Charlottenlund Private Hospital we have both anesthetists and nurse anesthetists with many years of experience in anesthetizing small and large children. Our specialist doctors are also skilled in treating children.

We treat a very large number of children with ENT disorders, which naturally means that we have a great deal of experience in this particular area. You can therefore safely choose us as your treatment provider.

Various ear-nose-throat treatments

Below you can read more about some of the ear-nose-throat treatments we offer children. We also offer specialized treatments if your child does not suffer from a common ENT disorder.

A safe experience

We meet you and your child with care, respect, friendliness and clear communication. Based on these values, we strive to create a safe and pleasant experience for your child, despite the insecurity that unfamiliar surroundings, new faces and pain/discomfort can cause.

Our doctors have treated many children in recent years and are good at meeting them at their level, so that they feel safe with the doctor. If your child is old enough to understand his illness, our doctors are also happy to help explain what is wrong - in a language he or she understands.

Ear pain can cause restless nights for both child, parents and any siblings. In connection with a cold, the Eustachian tube can become blocked, which creates negative pressure in the middle ear and causes fluid formation. It can be painful for the child, but the pain can be alleviated by placing a drain in the eardrum if the condition does not improve on its own over a period of time. The drain makes a small drain to the middle ear that must remain in place until it falls out on its own.

Draining the eardrum is an operation we have a lot of experience in doing. The operation is short-lived, and the child experiences a rapid recovery.

Partial removal of tonsils

Some children have such large tonsils that they experience problems at night in the form of restless sleep and sleep apnea (pauses in breathing). Since poor sleep can be closely linked to unhappiness, there is good reason to have your child's tonsils examined if he or she sleeps poorly.

If your child has large tonsils, the doctor may consider a partial removal of the tonsils, as it is a significantly smaller operation than a total removal. This means that the operation can be performed on children as young as two years of age.

Children's polyps

Children's polyps are lymphatic tissue in the nasopharynx that grows from birth until the age of 5-7. If the polyps are enlarged, they can contribute to fluid getting into the middle ear. They can also be responsible for the child not being able to breathe properly through the nose, which can lead to snoring, eating problems and incorrect growth of the facial bones.

Children's polyps are removed by surgery on children over two years of age.

Short tongue tie

In case of pronounced difficulty in breastfeeding, the child should be examined for a short tongue tie. It can be treated with a very simple procedure.

We have very little waiting time for tongue tie cutting. This is because we know how critical it can be that a child cannot take food.

At Charlottenlund Private Hospital, the intervention is carried out immediately after the examination, where it is established what type of tongue tie is involved and whether treatment is needed. In cases of doubt, the surgeon will typically ask a colleague to take a look - after which, in conversation and cooperation with the parents, it will be decided what needs to be done. All specialists who perform the procedure have both attended a continuing education course and follow the Danish Society for Head and Neck Surgery (DSOHH) guidelines and the National Clinical Guidelines (NKR), which you can read more about here.

After the procedure, the mother will be offered a quiet and sheltered place to sit with the baby and try to breastfeed the baby. In this way, both mother and child immediately experience that the procedure is over and in many cases the experience will already be quite different.
